ABSTRACT

Dengue fever [DF] is a vector-borne virus transmitted to humans by infected Aedes mosquitoes. In this study, we identified the most important factors associated with the prevalence of IgG antibodies in a border state between Sudan and the new republic of South Sudan. To quantify the association of specific factors with the prevalence of DF IgG antibodies in Lagawa among subjects aged 16-60 years in 2012. Analytical cross-sectional community-based study conducted in Lagawa in 2012. Indoor mosquito breeding was the most significant predictor affecting DF IgG serology. Household water storage was also strongly associated with the presence of IgG antibodies. Residence in urban areas, younger age and a history of travel to the Red Sea State were significant predictors of DF IgG seroprevalence in South Kordofan state. Indoor [household] behaviors associated with DF infection should be modified to mitigate the infection risk in the study area. Awareness should be raised regarding DF in Lagawa to ensure community participation in all control measures, and the surveillance system at the border between Sudan and the republic of South Sudan should be strengthened

ABSTRACT

Wounds around the ankle with exposed bones, tendons and nerves are very common in our practice and their reconstruction remains a challenge for the plastic surgeons. They often lead to infection and mal-union if early vascularized cover is not provided. To evaluate efficacy of medial perforator flap for reconstruction of this difficult area. A total number of 40 patients with injuries around the ankle were studied between December 2004 to December 2006 and all of them underwent reconstruction with medial perforator flaps. The Medial perforator flap is a quick, versatile, reliable reconstructive option and has minimal donor site morbidity

ABSTRACT

A prospective study was carried out over the period of six years including 215 patients. The objective of this study has been to evaluate the types of the clefts, their predisposing factors, age at first presentation and need for revisional surgery and to compare these with published studies on the subject and to draw conclusion about the epidemiology and the facilities available for its surgical correction. Prospective, observational study. 215 patients were evaluated over a period of six years by filling a proforma, which was entered into database. Different parameters were evaluated. There are a significant number of cleft patients presenting for first time above the age of 10 years. A large number of inappropriately treated patients require revisional surgery because of lack of properly trained cleft surgeons. Due to lack of specialized cleft care teams in our country no patient in this study could get comprehensive care for this deformity. It is need of the hour to pr ovide multidisciplinary care to these patients

ABSTRACT

Retrograde balloon dilatation of prostatic urethra was performed for prostatic obstruction under cystoscopic visual Control, reusing the balloon dilatation catheter. All 31 patients were treated as in patients. Old, high surgical risk cases, because of their underlying medical problems, Were selected for the procedure. General or epidural anaesthesia was used. All patients had urethral catheter for acute retention of urine. Successful results were noted in 26 cases [84%] for upto 3-18 months follow up. In 5 cases [16%], the procedure was unsuccessful, requiring trans-urethral resection of prostate in 3 cases [10%], and conservative management in 2 cases [6%]
